PRACTICE AREAS
Criminal Law
Regan McEntee & Partners has a large and busy Criminal Law department defending all manner of criminal prosecutions from minor summary matters for example - public order, road traffic and theft and fraud offences in the District Court to serious indictable crime – rape, sexual assault, assault, pornography, fraud, drugs, ‘white-collar’ crimes, robbery, in the Circuit Court and beyond.
Since 1958 we have defended all manner of Criminal prosecution and have the knowledge, experience, passion and ability to defend criminal charges across all levels of the Criminal Justice System.
We assist in all stages of the process from advising a client prior to attendance at a Garda Station, advice whilst in Garda custody, bail applications and representation at Court. We endeavour to make, what we appreciate can be an incredibly stressful experience as jargon-free as possible. We use plain ordinary language and ensure that there is regular and open communication. Our dedicated and enthusiastic practitioners attend all courts personally – we do not engage in the practice of having barristers represent clients at court where there has been no previous meeting.
A substantial proportion of our business arises from prosecutions under the Road Traffic legislation – drink driving or dangerous driving. We advise subsequent to the hearing of a case on the merits of an appeal and arrange for same if so instructed. We also advise as to restoration of driving licences where a defendant has been disqualified and are in a position to draft, issue and serve the necessary papers to seek restoration of a person’s driving licence in the relevant court.
We pride ourselves on providing clear advice at all stages. Even where the charge is relatively minor, we believe that it is hugely important that the long-term implications are explained to our clients.
All of our Criminal Law Solicitors are registered on the Criminal Justice Free Legal Aid panel and can represent eligible clients charged with crimes covered by the Free Legal Aid scheme. Under the scheme, those eligible will have their legal costs covered by the State. We can advise as to a client’s eligibility for this scheme and assist in the necessary paperwork for an application for Free Legal Aid.
A client is entitled to Free Legal Aid where –
- The charge is sufficiently serious
- The client is not in a position to privately pay for legal representation.
